How do you get the people you want to see your site to see it?
Rather than talk about the technical ‘hows and whys’ I thought it might be useful to expand on some of the key concepts behind search engine optimisation or SEO. SEO is the way in which your site ranks well on search engines such as Google. So, for me, I’m not necessarily interested in being number one in Google if someone types in ‘Sarah Bucknall’, however, I am interested in being number one in Google for ‘web consultancy’ or ‘content managed websites’ (which I’m not, but this site is quite new at the time of writing this, so I’m working on it!).
SEO is a major part of any web marketing strategy. Even if the web isn’t key for you in attracting new customers, having a good online visibility sends a sign that you are an established, professional outfit. Where it is an essential tool in attracting new business, SEO is crucial.
There are loads of tricks and tools that will bolster your search engine rankings, but the over-riding factor to consider is relevant content. For example, a site that explains your product, key activities and other really relevant factors on the home page. Your site’s architecture: the way in which the information is structured on pages throughout your site, is also a key consideration.
Keywords relating to your business, product or service should be identified and built on with the customer in mind. What do people in the market for your product actually type into a Google search?
